"H" Class Altitude Record

Back to Altitude Records

Who:  William Inman

What:  10,660 feet

When:  Oct. 7, 2001

Where:  Black Rock

Bill's "H" Bomb is a single stage 29mm minimum diameter, which flew on an Aerotech reloadable H268R motor (100% of "H" class max total impulse). The nose cone was a hollowed-out Vaughn Brothers "pointy" solid wood ogive.  The fins were designed by Bill for trans-sonic/supersonic flight, and are mounted with the trailing edge about a half caliber from the base. Bill used his own 10 foot tower launcher, and recovery was based on a single parachute deployed with a single Adept ALTS1-50K altimeter.

Here's a photo of Bill with his entire record holding fleet that he graciously allowed me to reproduce here.  It goes F through J from left to right.
